The evening of November 19 proved to be rewarding for Hoke County, as the Hoke County Board of Education and the Hoke County Board of Commissioners attended the North Carolina School Boards Association Annual Conference.  The NCSBA recognized Hoke County representatives with three awards, all of which stem from their leadership and dedication to student achievement.  The Hoke County Board of Education was recognized as the NC School Board of the Year with the presentation of the Leadership Award for School Board.  This honor is presented to one school board for extraordinary leadership during the 2012-2013 school year.  The Hoke County Board of Commissioners were named the County Commissioners of the Year.  This honor is presented to a board of county commissioners that has demonstrated extraordinary leadership that advances student achievement in the district.  Sandy Grove Middle School, a learning community brought to fruition by the collaboration of the Hoke County Board of Education, County Commissioners, and Sfl+a Architects, received the Award for Excellence in Architectural Design.  The NCSBA Award for Excellence in Architectural Design is a People’s Choice Award that is given to architects for the building design of public schools.  The goal is to raise awareness and discussion among board members about the relationship between good design and effective teaching and learning.
