  •  Purpose of the Academically/Intellectually Gifted Program

The purpose of Hoke County’s Academically/Intellectually Gifted Program is to implement Article 9B, 115C-150.6 which mandates that each LEA provide appropriate educational services to each academically or intellectually gifted student.

    Philosophy for Academically/Intellectually Gifted Programming

We believe that all students can learn according to their academic abilities. We also believe that learning is a lifelong endeavor that is cultivated through the collaborative efforts of the school, home, and community.

Furthermore, we believe that academically/intellectually gifted children and youth exist within all ethnic, geographic, and socioeconomic groups. We believe that services for children who are academically/intellectually gifted must be a part of an overall educational program.

We believe that students who are academically/intellectually gifted may not be reaching their potential-indeed, they may not even be recognized as gifted. For this reason, we believe an identification and education plan using a variety of assessments and multiple criteria must be developed and utilized.

We believe we should strive to provide a differentiated education for all academically/intellectually gifted students recognizing individual needs and strengths. We believe that appropriate staff development and support is necessary to assist teachers in providing this differentiated education.

We believe that continuous collaboration among teachers, parents, administrators, and community members is imperative to meet our goals.

  • Mission of the Academically/Intellectually Gifted Program

The mission of the Hoke County Schools' Academically and Intellectually Gifted Program is to provide differentiated educational services beyond those ordinarily provided by the regular educational program. We will refer and identify students from all cultural groups, across all economic strata and in all areas of human endeavor. Our primary goal is to ensure that our AIG students become critical thinkers and problem solvers, prepared for college, career and life upon graduation.
