NC Pre-K Curriculum
Hoke County Schools NC Pre-K Program utilizes Teaching Strategies The Creative Curriculum for Preschool Studies. This curriculum is both research-based and evidence-based that fosters developmentally appropriate readiness for our youngest learners. This curriculum honors the way children learn best through play-based studies and it nurtures language, literacy, math, and social-emotional skills daily. This whole-child approach ensures our student's readiness in all areas of development and learning: language, literacy, mathematics, social-emotional, physical, cognitive, social studies, science and technology, the arts, and English language acquisition. This curriculum emphasizes project-based, hands-on learning to build critical thinking and social-emotional skills. It bridges instruction and assessment through the GOLD assessment tool, enabling personalized learning, and strengthening family engagement through digital resources. Some of the topics students may explore during the school year include:
- The First Six Weeks , Blocks, Balls, Boxes, Bread, Brushes, Cameras, Clothes, Exercise, Gardening, The Human Body, Insects, Music Making, Light, Pets, Plants, Reduce, Reuse, & Recycle, Restaurants, Roads, Sand, Signs, Simple Machines, Tools, Trees, Tubes & Tunnels, Water, Weather, Wheels, or Getting Ready for Kindergarten
Teaching Strategies Al's Pals: Kids Making Healthy Choices is an evidenced-based, social-emotional learning (SEL) curriculum utilized in Hoke County Schools NC Pre-K Program. It uses interactive lessons, puppets, and music to teach emotional regulation, conflict resolution, and positive decision-making. There are 46 interactive, teacher-led lessons involving puppets, songs and cognitive-behavioral techniques.
Families are also invited to utilize ReadyRosie, a research-based, mobile friendly family engagement and early learning platform that helps schools and families work together to prepare students for school. ReadyRosie offers over 1,500 short bilingual (English/Spanish) "Modeled Moments" videos showing real families completing educational activities. This APP is free for families to enroll and use throughout the school year.
