SGMS Counseling Program Goals

  • 1. The school counseling program will ensure that each student is actively engaged in the exploration of college, career, and life readiness activities via classroom guidance, individual, and small group activities. ​This goal embraces NC Professional School Counselor Standard 4: Element IVb.  

     

    A. School counselor will enhance student knowledge on college and career readiness via classroom guidance lessons, individuals, small group counseling sessions, and college and career readiness presentations (College and Career Readiness Coordinators and SandHoke Early College). All students will become college and career ready by taking Readiness Assessments and by utilizing College Foundation of N.C. (CFNC).   

     

    2. The school counseling program will strive to create a positively safe learning atmosphere by meeting every student’s individual socio-emotional, physical, mental, and academic needs. This goal embraces NC Professional School Counselor Standard 2: Element IIa,IIc & Standard 4: Element IVb.


    A. To efficiently achieve this goal, school counselor will incorporate classroom guidance lessons of social skills curriculum targeting character education and bullying and co-facilitate instruction with health educators. School counselor and/or school social worker will conduct individual, small group counseling, and peer mediation that will facilitate healthy peer relationships enabling a safe school environment. School counselor will build a rapport and maintain a consistent collaboration with stakeholders to ensure that this goal is achieved. School counselor will utilize practices and strategies from Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS). The need will be determined by referrals and surveys.
