• Turlington was built in 1935 as a Depression Era project to put people to work and also to create a bigger school which was needed. The school also included the Extension section which served as a Library. A large gym sat in the field next to the EC huts behind the main building. Due to vacancy and disrepair the roof caved in on the gym and it was torn down. After the high school (Hoke High) moved to its present site in 1960. Turlington Alternative School was used as an intermediate school and then a middle school. The Alternative Program began in 1994. When the Alternative Program began in 1994, the school was vacant and steps were in motion to raise the buildings. Instead it became the Alternative School enabling students to continue their education in a different setting and thus graduate from high school. Former Principals include: Mr. Reggie Pinkney, Mr. Leo Salzer, Mr. Roger Edwards, Dr. James McLauchlin, Dr. Thomas Benson, Dr. Krista Friedrich, Mr. Michael Armstrong, Mr. Antonio Covington, Joel Brewington, and current principal, Mr. Gerald Puckett.
