Description: Middle School Battle of the Books (MBOB) is a program that encourages reading. MBOB is essentially a book club that competes. Each team consists of no more than 12 middle school students who battle against other middle schools within the district. During the competition, students are asked questions based on the plot, characters, and setting of each of the 20 books.

Meeting Time & Location: Thursdays 4:00pm - 6:00pm in the Media Center

Member Qualifications: Any middle school student that is in good academic standing and committed to fulfilling the following student responsibilities:

• Read ALL books and prepare for competition.

• Practice teamwork and good sportsmanship.

• Attend practice sessions.

Description: The mission of the Boys to Men Mentoring Group at East Hoke Middle School is to engage males with academic enrichment, leadership development and activities, higher-order thinking conversation, male etiquette, and community service. Boyz to Men will typically meet every Thursday unless otherwise noted and stated via email and morning announcements. Throughout the year Boys to Men will be involved in multiple scholastic, service and leisure opportunities. During our weekly meetings, the boys will discuss different topics of real life in real-world conversations. Boys to Men will support the NCDPI initiative “Portrait of a Graduate” by teaching boys, the following: Adaptability, Collaboration, Communication, Critical Thinking, Empathy, Learner’s Mindset, and Personal Responsibility through a series of hands-on mentorship during the school day and never ending, even when the student is home.

Description: The East Hoke Middle School Royal Court will be composed of students who place in a pageant to represent our school. EHMS Pageant program was created to showcase beauty/charm and educational excitement while providing each student the opportunity to gain confidence, build new friendships, achieve new goals and be the embodiment of true Eagle Spirit. These students will serve as ambassadors of the school and also serve on the Student Government Association.

Description: This clubs is part of the Hoke County Schools F.R.E.S.H. Reads extended hours initiative. This program will focus on the following:

Programs and activities that will encourage reading and exploration of current digital and print resources.

Provide access by opening the school library for two hours on designated days for families to participate in literacy-inspired activities and check out materials

A variety of book club activities with a particular focus on needs of middle school students.
