Through specially designed instruction in the least restrictive environment, students with disabilities will have access to a rigorous curriculum that is meaningful, challenging, and aligned to grade-level standards.
The Exceptional Children’s Department strives to build relationships with students and their families, staff, and our community to provide individualized instruction to achieve academic growth while building social and emotional skills that result in students becoming life-long learners, self-advocates, and active members of the community. We do so by:
Embedding special education supports within the District’s Educational Framework.
Guiding school teams in meeting the expectations set forth in federal, state, & local laws.
Providing professional development growth opportunities for special education staff.
Embracing a growth mindset of inclusivity, access to a challenging curriculum, and high expectations.
All students with disabilities have strengths that enable them to learn and grow academically, socially, and independently.
All students with disabilities deserve access to the general education environment to the greatest extent possible.
All educators and staff should maintain a growth mindset, and create a safe and supportive learning environment that includes family and community engagement, thus creating a capacity for increased student outcomes.
As Director of the Exceptional Children's Program, I strive to empower students with disabilities to reach their individual potential. I am dedicated and committed to creating strong partnerships with schools, families, and the community in order to prepare each exceptional student to transition into the adult world. We are all “building together” with the end goal in mind of preparing our students to be academically, socially, and emotionally ready for the future.
